Synopsis
In the year A.D. 2040, three decades have elapsed since the conflict between Earth and the Zentraedi fleet reshaped the destiny of both species. On the colony world of Eden, a classified initiative called "Supernova" is underway to choose the next-generation variable fighter for U.N. Spacy. The contenders are Shinsei Industries' YF-19 and General Galaxy's YF-21, each vying for development funding. The YF-21 is piloted by Guld Goa Bowman, a hybrid of human and Zentraedi heritage. Shinsei gains a new test pilot in the headstrong fighter Isamu Dyson, who was once a comrade of Guld. As Isamu and Guld clash fiercely to prove which aircraft is superior, a Virturoid Idol named Sharon Apple is scheduled to hold her premiere concert on Eden. Her producer is Myung Fang Lone, another former friend of both Isamu and Guld. When the trio reunites, old grievances from a troubled past resurface. Unbeknownst to them, their shared history—coupled with the Supernova Project and Sharon Apple—will ultimately draw them together.
Background
Macross Plus Movie Edition is a compiled edited version of the OVA, including new scenes during its runtime. The film premiered in North American theaters on December 14, 2021.
