Synopsis
This story is based on the children's song The Hare and the Tortoise, with lyrics by Wasaburo Ishihara and music by Benjiro Nosho. The visuals are created using a straightforward technique that relies solely on lines. Even though it is a silent film, the production is intended to integrate musical aspects. As an illustration, the lyrics of the song The Hare and the Tortoise appear as musical notes emerging from the characters' mouths. The distinctive backdrops evoke scenery from a foreign country rather than a setting typical of an old Japanese folktale. This work ranks among Sanae Yamamoto's earliest creations, and records indicate it was produced by Kitayama Eiga Seisakusho, the studio owned by Seitaro Kitayama, who was Yamamoto's mentor.
