Wakakusa no Yon Shimai
若草の四姉妹
Synopsis
During the American Civil War, Dr. Mr. March leaves his wife and four daughters behind to work as a battlefield physician. At home, Mrs. March looks after their girls: Margaret (Meg), the oldest; Josephine (Jo), a lively girl who dreams of becoming a writer and has a tomboyish nature; Elisabeth (Beth), a shy girl who loves playing piano; and Amy, the youngest, who is passionate about drawing. The sisters become acquainted with their new neighbor, Mr. Lawrence, who initially seems stern, and his grandson Laurie, who is about Jo's age. As the family deals with conflicts, personal jealousies, and moments of happiness, the war continues to cast a shadow over their lives, and they cling to the hope that their father will return unharmed.
