Kamikatsu: Working for God in a Godless World

Synopsis

Yukito Urabe, believing the all-powerful god Mitama would save him, takes part in a ceremony to succeed his father as head of a religious group. However, he dies by drowning during the ritual and prays for rebirth in a world without gods or faith. Waking up, he discovers a completely different realm where spirituality does not exist. A strange girl named Aruaru introduces him to the village. His ideal image of this new world starts to shatter when he sees a mass public suicide and learns that the government can order any citizen to die at any moment. When Aruaru and her sister are captured for execution, Yukito tries to stop it but fails. In desperation, he remembers his father's teachings and calls out to Mitama. Suddenly, a little girl descends from the sky, destroying those who harmed Yukito and his friends. Shockingly, she reveals she is Mitama.
