Synopsis
Shuuzou "Shuu" Matsutani leads an ordinary, peaceful existence filled with friendships, a crush on a girl, and kendo practice. After a disappointing defeat in a kendo match, he climbs a smokestack to watch the sunset and meets Lala-Ru, a quiet blue-haired girl wearing an unusual pendant. Although she ignores him, Shuu tries to connect with her. His hopeful mood shatters when a woman accompanied by two serpent-like machines appears to capture Lala-Ru. Shuu attempts to rescue her but is instead transported to a strange desert world. Focused on saving Lala-Ru, he endures brutal treatment from soldiers and learns she can control water using her pendant—a priceless ability in this arid land. However, the pendant goes missing, and Shuu becomes the main suspect. This grim tale follows Shuu through a dystopian wasteland as he suffers torture, hunger, and the horrors of war, all while clinging to his determination to protect the lonely girl he first saw on top of a smokestack.
