Synopsis

In 2035, a Japanese research facility triggers "The Burst," which creates the "Matter"—a constantly expanding, self-replicating substance that consumes everything in its path. The Matter spreads through the remains of dams and military installations in Kurobe Gorge, leading task forces to try to stop its advance toward the sea and mercenaries to investigate the concealed truths behind it. Aiko Tachibana is rescued from the Matter and placed under continuous medical observation. While recovering, she spends her time folding paper airplanes. However, her peaceful school life is disrupted when new student Yuuya Kanzaki questions the strange aspects of her health. He wonders why she remains unharmed and no longer needs her wheelchair. Yuuya believes Aiko holds the key to stopping The Burst and that she is more than what she has been told. With various groups chasing them, Aiko and Yuuya set out to form a team and enter the gorge overrun by the Matter. To escape the tightening web of conspiracy, they must face the formidable enemy that moves like water.
