Synopsis

Born in the Chinese state of Lu in 551 BC, Confucius is raised by his mother after his father passes away when he is only three. At nineteen, he marries and begins serving the local nobility. By thirty-two, he becomes a tutor to the children of Lu's prince, eventually rising to a political role at fifty-one. Among his highest positions, he serves as minister of justice and later as prime minister of Lu. Under his guidance, the state flourishes for four years, but Confucius grows weary of political schemes and sets out on a twelve-year journey to neighboring states, offering his counsel there.
