Pop Team Epic elevates absurd comedy to extreme levels through its relentless cultural references and surreal humor. The series centers on two high school girls: Popuko, who is short and fiercely hot-tempered, and Pipimi, her tall and disturbingly calm counterpart. They unhesitatingly blend genres, mixing parody, drama, action, and crude comedy together. Their ultimate goal is to become a real anime.

After their highly successful effort to produce a genuine anime, high school duo Popuko and Pipimi return with even more chaos. Ignoring what viewers expect, they throw themselves into their daily routines, which are filled with ridiculous comedy and wide-ranging parodies. Their crazy behavior impacts everyone nearby, particularly the unlucky voice actor Shouta Aoi, who finds himself trapped in an unsuitable hero role he cannot escape.
