Himouto! Umaru-chan centers on Umaru Doma, a girl who projects the image of a perfect high school student yet transforms into a laid-back, junk-food-obsessed otaku the moment she is alone at home. Relying on her diligent older brother, Taihei, to handle all domestic duties, Umaru spends her free time with friends Nana Ebina and Kirie Motoba or engaging in spirited rivalry with Sylphinford Tachibana. The story captures the daily lives of Umaru and Taihei as they navigate their sibling dynamic while treasuring their connections with friends and family.

In Himouto! Umaru-chan R, Umaru Doma, a top-performing student, turns into a lazy otaku hooked on junk food the moment she arrives home, always wearing her signature hamster hoodie. As her daily antics unfold, her bonds with Nana Ebina, Kirie Motoba, and Sylphinford Tachibana grow stronger, leading to increasingly comedic situations. Amid the fun, several mysteries emerge: what favor did Nana ask of Umaru’s brother, Taihei? Who is the mysterious girl with the diamond hairpin, and why does she seem to recognize Umaru?
