Synopsis
This film is inspired by an ancient myth of the Qiang, an ethnic group living in the highlands of southwestern China. It centers on a monkey raised among humans who journeys in the footsteps of his mother, Awubaji, to the Holy Mountain in search of the secret behind warmth. Enduring many dangers and trials along the way, the monkey at last obtains a fire stone. The flames burn away his fur, and he ultimately becomes a human being. The movie is presented in the manner of classic Chinese ink-wash painting, offering a poetic portrayal of life in a prehistoric era. The tale of stealing fire explores lasting ideas such as growth and friendship, which remain meaningful in the present day. With Ran Bi Wa, the legendary Shanghai Animation Film Studio, home to numerous celebrated Chinese animations, is making a victorious comeback.
