Synopsis
As the second part of the Virtual Trilogy, Gene Diver combines both animated and live-action footage. The story centers on Virtual Station, a research facility dedicated to DNA analysis. By utilizing ancient genetic material, the lab digitally reconstructs past eras. Serving as a Gene Diver, Yui ventures into these simulated prehistoric environments to gather DNA from creatures that have gone extinct. However, during a standard system maintenance, a malfunction occurs: rather than sending Yui back to reality, the glitch projects Yui into a newly formed, unstable virtual version of the present. Within this distorted timeline, a rodent-derived species of high intelligence called the puglaistig has arisen. Viewing humans as an extreme threat, the puglaistig are determined to stop further human development at all costs.
