Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master
Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai
烏は主を選ばない
Synopsis
In the Kingdom of Yamauchi, people possess the ability to transform into three-legged crows called yatagarasu. Men handle political affairs, while women compete to become the wife of Wakamiya, the crown prince designated as the Kinu, or servant, to the Mountain God. Among the four female contenders who arrive at the royal court is Asebi, whose kind and innocent nature distinguishes her from the others. Meanwhile, Wakamiya faces difficulties in solidifying his role within the clan. As the second son of a concubine, he was chosen over his older brother by the royal priests to be the Kinu, a decision that has strained his relationship with his sibling and angered his stepmother. The arrival of Yukiya, a teenager from the village chief's household sent to serve as Wakamiya's new attendant, further complicates matters, though his presence at the imperial court is anything but coincidental.
