Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan

Synopsis

Hisone Amakasu, uncertain about her path in life, joins the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) and is assigned to Gifu Airbase. While exploring the facility, she discovers the JASDF's hidden secret: the Organic Transformed Flyer (OTF), a dragon capable of taking on the form of an airplane. After being swallowed and then released by the OTF, Hisone is informed by her superiors that this event marks her selection as the next Dragon Pilot, continuing a long-standing tradition. Alongside her fellow pilot trainees and her newly partnered OTF, which she playfully names "Maso-tan," Hisone must confront her doubts to unlock her full potential as a Dragon Pilot and uncover the mysterious origins of the OTFs.

Background

Originally conceptualized by BONES, Mari Okada, and Shinji Higuchi. Hisone to Masotan was announced at the 2017 Tokyo Comic Con. It premiered on April 13th, 2018 at 00:00 JST (effectively April 14th) on Tokyo MX. It has been licensed by Netflix for Domestic and International streaming. Winner of the Excellence Award at the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival.
