Synopsis
Renny stood as the central force behind the revival of Shin Buddhism in Japan, specifically the Honganji tradition, during an age when its influence had waned considerably. Legend holds that his purpose was fixed in an extraordinary moment when he was only six years old, as his mother summoned him and told him that he was destined to reclaim the Honganji legacy, being the rightful successor to the lineage. Soon afterward, she vanished without explanation from the temple grounds. Carrying that conviction with him, and emerging from a life marked by severe poverty and struggle, he took to the road at sixteen to carry the teaching across the region.
