Synopsis
This is a different version of the story from the one featured in the Seishun Anime Zenshu TV series. Botchan, a fresh graduate, leaves for his first teaching job—without any idea of what lies ahead. He has to cope with students who spy on him and play nasty tricks, plus a landlord who keeps trying to sell him worthless antiques. On a fishing trip meant to lift his spirits, Botchan comes to suspect that Hotta, his only friend in the village, is responsible for all his troubles. But this is only the start of his difficulties... During a meeting held to address the students' disrespectful conduct toward Botchan, the suggested punishment is surprisingly lenient given the seriousness of their actions. Yet the very person Botchan believed to be his enemy comes to his defense! Could the other faculty members have been lying about Hotta? Botchan may soon learn the truth—because when evidence of the dean's activities comes to light, Botchan and Hotta must join forces to trap the dean in his own scandalous game.
