Synopsis

Five years have passed since the mysterious "Bubble Fall" event, when bubbles with gravity-defying properties and unknown powers descended upon Earth. The epicenter was Tokyo, which became enveloped in a colossal bubble after a massive, unexplained explosion, transforming it into a restricted zone submerged in a gravity-bending sea. The city's inhabitants evacuated, leaving behind orphans who now illegally reside there, engaging in perilous parkour battles amidst the decaying buildings. Among these orphans is Hibiki, a talented competitor who can leap between floating bubbles. He claims to hear strange sounds emanating from Tokyo Tower and sets out to investigate. However, during his exploration, he falls into the peculiar waters beneath the city. Hibiki is rescued by a mysterious girl he later names Uta. Unbeknownst to Hibiki, Uta's appearance in his life holds the key to unraveling the secrets behind the cataclysmic event that forever altered their world.

Bubble received an early screening at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival on February 10, 2022. The film was released worldwide on Netflix on April 28, 2022, and in Japanese theaters on May 13, 2022.
