Synopsis

Working since before World War II, Shoji Ueda transcended amateurism. In his photographic world, he selects, cuts, and rearranges images according to his own sensibility, a process that led him to Ga-nime, a new medium encouraged by his friend, actor Shiro Sano, who shares his birth prefecture. The photographs featured in this exhibition include not only his renowned "Dune Mode" series but also numerous pre- and post-war images of his hometown, streetcars running through Tokyo, and traditional Japanese scenes, collectively revealing an entire culture.
