This is an adaptation of the Bugs 2 arc from the manga. In the late 26th century, Earth's overpopulation has reached a critical breaking point, forcing humanity to look for new frontiers. The terraforming of Mars, a process that took centuries, is now complete. The colonization of Mars by humans is a landmark event, but an unforeseen side effect of the terraforming process unleashes a horror beyond imagination. After the first manned mission to the Red Planet was lost, a second expedition arrives. The explorers prepare to exterminate the cockroaches that were used to transform the Martian environment. They are stunned to find that the insects have mutated into giant, aggressive humanoids with a single overriding objective—exterminate the humans! However, this crew of explorers has each undergone the Bugs Procedure, a terrifying experimental surgery designed to make them more than human.

In this installment

In the 21st century, humanity dispatched algae and cockroaches to Mars to begin terraforming the planet, relying on their resilience against its harsh environment. These species adapted beyond expectations. By the 26th century, Earth is ravaged by the deadly Alien Engine Virus, with its cure rumored to exist only on Mars. However, Mars is now inhabited by the "Terraformars," intelligent and powerful humanoids that evolved from the original cockroaches. To counter this threat, the genetically enhanced Annex I team, composed of one hundred individuals modified with traits from Earth’s most resilient organisms, is sent to Mars. Their mission is to locate the source of the Alien Engine Virus and save humanity, sparking a perilous struggle for survival among the crew.
