Synopsis
Umiko Chino, a 65-year-old retiree, is still grieving the loss of her husband. The two of them once shared a love of watching films together, and after years away from the cinema, she finally returns to a theater—where she crosses paths with Kai, a charismatic and enigmatic young man studying filmmaking at a nearby art school. On the surface, the two have little in common. But they share one peculiar habit: both are just as fascinated by the audience's reactions to a movie as they are by the movie itself. Kai recognizes in Umiko the same deep longing he carries—a desire to see how people respond to something one has created—and he challenges her to spend the rest of her life chasing that thrill. To her own surprise, Umiko ends up enrolling in the same film school as Kai. But as she steps into this unfamiliar world, she finds herself swept up in the lives of her fellow students, a much younger generation whose passions, struggles, and relationships she can barely grasp. Who truly has the most life experience—and is wisdom born of age, or of careful observation? And when you look at the world through your own eyes instead of a camera lens, does what you're searching for change?
