Megure, Juuzou
Summary
Inspector Juuzou Megure serves as a Rank 6 Police Inspector in Division 1 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He is a staple at murder scenes, where he leads his team—including Takagi Wataru, Satou Miwako, Shiratori Ninzaburou, and Chiba—by interviewing suspects and commanding the investigation. A capable veteran, Megure deeply cares for his subordinates but is prone to shouting fits when things go wrong or when his temper flares. He possesses little patience for fools and can be somewhat conservative, which occasionally limits his flexibility in thinking. His personal history includes meeting his future wife, Midori, during an early case, an event that left him with a scar and self-consciousness about how they met. Consequently, he wears a hat in public to hide the scar. Megure was once a close friend of famous mystery novelist Kudou Yuusaku, often consulting him on cases. Yuusaku frequently brought his son Shinichi along, allowing the boy to learn investigative skills that would eventually lead him to become a detective. After Shinichi solved a case for him, Megure began to regularly consult him for difficult investigations and viewed him as a great asset. In contrast, Megure typically dismisses Conan and the Detective Boys as a nuisance until they help solve the case at hand. He also holds Kogorou in low regard due to their shared police days, believing Kogorou is jinxed because murders always seem to occur near him, a pattern that aligns with Conan’s true identity, which Megure appears to have realized in later instances. While rare in the manga, anime-original episodes sometimes depict Megure lecturing culprits on the morality of their crimes.
