Hoshika
Sawagejou, Chou

Summary

Known as 'The Sword Hunter', Chou maintains a diverse arsenal of rare blades, such as a long flexible sword concealed at his waist and a double-bladed renbatou. Without these exotic weapons, he is merely a mediocre fighter, despite his proficiency in master-level sheathing techniques. He projects a calm and cool demeanor, usually keeping one eye closed while speaking and only opening both during the heat of battle. His speech carries a distinct Kansai-ben accent. His combat style adapts to the sword he wields, though he primarily utilizes the Garyuorochi style. This includes the Orochi technique, where he bounces the Hakujin no Tachi across the ground in waves. He employed Sakasa Kuchu Noutou on Iori, the son of Seiku, to locate the final sword of the Shakku, which had been enshrined as a godsword. During that encounter, Kenshin defeated him using that very sword. Chou realized he could not match a well-armed Kenshin but warned his foes that every member of the Juppongatana was stronger than himself. Following Shishio's death, he visited Kenshin and his companions to relay the fates of the Juppongatana members, eventually taking up work as a spy and informant under Saitou. In the anime, Chou attempts to attack Amakusa Shougo but is decisively beaten. In the manga, he appears during the Jinchuu Arc to assist in uncovering information regarding Enishi.
