Mohji serves as the first mate of Buggy’s Crew, displaying a pompous and occasionally silly demeanor. He claims the ability to control any animal, though he has only ever demonstrated this with his pet lion, Richie, who functions more like a crewmate than a mere beast. In combat, Mohji typically relies on Richie rather than fighting directly, though he is fast, agile, and highly skilled with a whip. He is also responsible for setting fires, including the destruction of a pet-food shop and the Going Merry. During his debut, Mohji was dispatched by Buggy to capture Roronoa Zoro but was intercepted by Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy defeated Mohji after he burned down a shop belonging to a deceased man and his surviving dog. Following Buggy’s defeat, Mohji and Cabaji engaged in a hours-long battle for leadership that ended when a sleepwalking Richie knocked them both unconscious, assuming command himself. Although Richie and the pirates were later kidnapped by cannibals, they were rescued by Buggy, Alvida, Mohji, and Cabaji. Mohji participated in the attack on Loguetown, where his objective was to burn the Straw-Hats’ boat. He failed to do so once it began to rain. Nami and Usopp located him and Richie, but when Mohji ordered Richie to attack, Usopp distracted the lion with an egg. The arrival of Marines who began firing caused chaos, allowing Mohji to dodge the bullets and flee with Buggy’s group. Later, Mohji reappeared with the crew in the Grand Line as they searched for Portgas D. Ace. He also featured in a TV Special where One Piece characters were portrayed as ninjas and appeared in various video games. His hairstyle changes with each arc: shaped like a teddy bear during the Buggy arc, a pink helmet with bunny ears during the Loguetown arc, and a lion’s mane once the group enters the Grand Line.
