Summary
Kurapika is a seventeen-year-old male at the start of the series, now nineteen, standing 171 cm tall and weighing 59 kg. Born on April 4 under the Aries sign with blood type AB, he has blonde hair and eyes that are blue in the 1999 anime but brown in the manga and 2011 adaptation. However, his irises turn scarlet when he experiences strong emotions. He is the sole survivor of the Kurta tribe, an isolated community whose members possessed scarlet eyes considered among the seven most beautiful in the world. Driven by greed, the Phantom Troupe, also known as The Spiders, massacred the Kurta tribe four years before the Hunter Exam, stealing every eye from the victims. Kurapika’s sole purpose is to exact revenge on the Spiders and retrieve his people’s eyes. Although consumed by hatred toward the Phantom Troupe, Kurapika displays kindness and unwavering loyalty to his friends. He is highly intelligent yet prone to recklessness. His Nen ability falls under Conjuration, but shifts to Specialization when his eyes turn scarlet, a state that grants him Emperor Time, or Absolute Mastery. He conjures five unique chains from his right hand, each finger serving a specific function. To maximize their potency against the powerful Spiders, he imposes strict Limitations on their use. While the purpose of the index finger chain remains undisclosed, his other chains include Holy Chain for healing, Chain Jail for binding and manipulating Nen users, and Dowsing Chain for tracking.
