Summary
Tessai Tsukabishi is a towering, muscular Shinigami who serves as the right-hand man to Kisuke Urahara at the Urahara Shop. Formerly the Captain of the Kidō Corps in Soul Society, he shares the same fate as his current employer, having been forced into exile. To avoid detection, he resides in an untraceable gigai while assisting with the shop’s operations. Despite his intimidating appearance, characterized by dark skin, square glasses, a massive handlebar mustache, and a white shirt paired with a blue apron, Tessai is actually a quiet, level-headed, and stern individual who often acts as a disciplinary force against Jinta’s childish antics. Beneath his serious exterior lies a sentimental side; he is deeply loyal to Urahara and takes immense pride in his work, capable of bursting into joyful tears over a simple compliment. However, he reacts with intense irritation if his efforts are snubbed, as seen when Soifon showed disdain for the shop. His eccentricities also include purchasing medicines advertised on television, which frequently fail or cause unpleasant side effects, much to Urahara’s annoyance. Interestingly, he is one of the few people who genuinely enjoys Orihime’s bizarre culinary creations, the other being Rangiku Matsumoto. During his tenure in Soul Society, he wore an ornate dark robe over standard Shinigami attire. His exile resulted from using a forbidden spell in a failed attempt to capture Aizen. Having held his position for at least two hundred years, he even remarked to Rukia Kuchiki that the term "Quincy" evokes memories from that distant era.
