Summary
Hidan is a resident of Yugakure, the Village Hidden in the Steam, who appears to be twenty-two years old despite being immortal. He serves as a member of the Akatsuki and is partnered with Kakuzu. Hidan adheres to Jashin-ism, a religion that worships a deity of the same name and considers anything less than death and utter destruction a sin. His adherence to this faith grants him immortality, though this state depends on regularly sacrificing people to Jashin. Through experiments conducted by his religion, Hidan possesses unique abilities centered around a three-headed Scythe. By consuming an opponent's blood and drawing Jashin's triangular-design on the ground, he creates a voodoo doll-like link with his target. This connection reflects any damage dealt to Hidan onto his opponent, allowing him to kill them by inflicting fatal injuries upon himself. Since he is immortal, Hidan suffers no impairment from these wounds and instead finds pleasure in the pain. Personality-wise, Hidan is sadistic, arrogant, rude, and impatient. These traits frequently clash with his partner, Kakuzu, leading to constant arguments and fights. Despite Kakuzu often harboring the urge to kill Hidan, he is unable to do so due to Hidan's immortality, a dynamic Kakuzu notes makes them a perfect team. This pairing has led fellow Akatsuki member Kisame Hoshigake to jokingly refer to them as the "Zombi Combi." Hidan enjoys annoying other Akatsuki members, addressing them with insulting nicknames such as "Dei-chan." He openly challenges Pain's authority, displaying significant disrespect. His aggressive nature and frustration with the peace and lack of violence in his home village prompted him to leave after slaughtering many neighbors in cold blood for entertainment.
