Tokagerou
Summary
Tokagerou is a six-hundred-year-old spirit who lived during the same era as Amidamaru. Born into poverty, he was forced to consume his own deceased mother to survive, which led him to become an infamous bandit leader. He developed a unique fighting style known as Tokage Kenpo (Lizard Style) and led a horde that terrorized the region six hundred years ago. After he and his gang ambushed Amidamaru on a hill used as their hideout, the samurai defeated them, killing Tokagerou. Unable to let go of his hatred, Tokagerou was denied passage to the afterlife, and his skin eventually turned a lizard-like green due to his lingering resentment. Despite claiming to be a nasty villain, he is actually a soft-hearted spirit who deeply misses the comfort of a mother’s care. In the modern day, Tokagerou possesses Umemiya Ryunosuke, referred to as "Wooden Sword" Ryuu, to seek revenge on Amidamaru, who does not remember him. Guided by Kyouyama Anna’s research into this obscure historical figure, Tokagerou steals the Harusame (Sword of Light) from a museum to attack You and Amidamaru. The ensuing battle forces the duo to break the sword to save Ryuu’s life. You then appeals to Tokagerou’s true nature, convincing him that he is not as evil as he pretends to be. Tokagerou allows You to possess him instead of Ryuu with the intention of killing him, but ultimately finds he cannot bring himself to do so and departs peacefully.
