Kyouraku, Shunsui Jirou Sakuranosuke

Summary

Kyouraku Shunsui Jirou Sakuranosuke serves as the Captain of the 8th Division. A laid-back and flamboyant figure, he is known for his distinctive attire, which includes a straw hat and a pink flowered haori worn over his captain's uniform. While his haori and obi sash are inexpensive, his pinwheel hairpin is quite costly. In his leisure time, Kyouraku enjoys drinking sake and napping, and he has a reputation for chasing after women, a habit noted by Yasochika Iemura of the 4th Squad in his diary. He frequently flirts with his lieutenant, Nanao Ise, whom he affectionately calls 'my Nanao-chan'. During an omake outtake, he even suggested to Rangiku Matsumoto that she buy Nanao a sexy outfit for their time in the human world, resulting in Matsumoto returning with a skimpy two-piece bathing suit that Nanao refused to wear. Kyouraku shares a close friendship with 13th Division Captain Jushiro Ukitake, with whom he graduated from the shinigami academy and often collaborates. His speech patterns are notably more familiar than those of most other characters in Bleach. He typically addresses fellow captains and shinigami by their first names followed by an honorific, but he is the only character who omits honorifics when speaking to General Yamamoto, referring to him as old Yama (Yama-jī). Even Ukitake, who was also trained by Yamamoto, does not use this casual form of address. Although Kyouraku is peace-loving and prefers to resolve conflicts through dialogue, he refuses to insult his opponents by refusing to fight, a stance he explained to Chad. Although his status as a captain implies significant strength, the full extent of his abilities has not been fully displayed in the series. General Yamamoto has stated that Kyouraku and Jushiro Ukitake, both of whom he personally trained, possess greater battlefield power than any member of either the younger or older generations. This suggests they are more powerful than any other captain, with the possible exception of Yamamoto himself. The slightly eccentric Kyouraku also enjoys making dramatic impressions on his opponents. During the Soul Society arc, when confronting Chad, who had invaded the 8th division area, he had Nanao Ise scatter rose petals to create a grand entrance. The plan initially worked, but when Nanao failed to stop and Kyouraku began awkwardly urging her to cease, she dumped the entire basket of petals on him, burying him and ruining the moment.
