Takatsuki, Yoshino
Summary
As the other protagonist of Hourou Musuko, Yoshino Takatsuki presents as tall and masculine, initially appearing as a fifth grader in Shuuichi’s class. Known to her peers as Takatsuki-kun, she expresses a strong desire to be male and typically avoids traditionally feminine attire like skirts, despite her mother’s persistent efforts to buy them for her. After befriending Shuuichi, she cuts her hair into a short, boyish style, allowing her to pass as a boy, particularly when wearing a male school uniform. Like Shuuichi, she becomes increasingly resentful of her changing body due to puberty, even purchasing undergarments to flatten her chest to avoid wearing a bra. Although she wishes to dress and act as a boy permanently, she avoids overt displays that might draw attention once she enters junior high. Nevertheless, she occasionally wears a male uniform and visits neighboring cities while presenting as male, once enjoying the attention of an older woman. Yoshino aims for a "cool" appearance that distances her from traditional girl aesthetics. She tends to become emotional when teased and can occasionally resort to violence. Upon entering junior high, she joins the girls’ basketball club alongside Chizuru Sarashina. Her hair is grown out temporarily following a comment from Saori, but she eventually returns to her short, boyish cut. Her family includes her father, mother, older brother, and older sister.
