Summary
Teito Klein serves as the central protagonist of the narrative, initially introduced as a former slave from the fallen Kingdom of Raggs who was captured by the Barsburg Empire. Orphaned and raised within a church, he eventually emerges as the standout star pupil of the military academy. It is later uncovered that during the imperial invasion of his homeland, he was entrusted with the Eye of Mikhail, revealing his true identity as the son of Raggs' former king. The story opens with a poignant vow made between Teito and his best friend, Mikage, to die together. When Mikage sacrifices his life to protect Teito from imperial forces, a devastated Teito defies his friend's dying wish to swear revenge. To facilitate his journey while gaining the practical benefits of priestly status, such as free lodging and lenient border checks, he begins training at the 7th District church. However, his association with the Eye of Mikhail entangles him in divine affairs, leading to significant turmoil.
