Chang, Bak
Summary
Born on November 11, Bak Chang is a 29-year-old man of Chinese descent with German wizard lineage and serves as one of the founders of the Black Order. He currently leads the Asia Branch, a position previously held by his great-grandfather. Much like Komui, he is deeply conscious of his responsibilities and adheres strictly to God's will. Thanks to a seal inherited from his ancestor and his own bloodline, he possesses the ability to manipulate the structural integrity of buildings. As the branch director, he presents a cold and highly responsible demeanor, yet he genuinely cares for his subordinates. Nine years prior, the Chang and Epstein families were compelled to join the Synthetic Disciple Project, which produced Second Exorcists. Since Kanda was created through this initiative, Bak feels profound remorse and fears that the emergence of Third Exorcists might provoke Kanda's anger. He maintains a close bond with Fo and is likely related to Edgar Chang, the former assistant head, and Twi Chang, the former head of the branch. In flashbacks covering Kanda's past in chapters 189-193, it is revealed that Edgar fathered a child with Twi and may have served as a father figure to both Alma and Kanda before being killed by Alma due to unfortunate circumstances. Twi’s fate is unknown but presumed similar. When Bak was 20, he briefly encountered Kanda alongside Noise Marie. Additionally, he harbors an obsessive, stalker-like infatuation with Lenalee, evidenced by a folder of photographs he keeps on him. When Allen questioned him about this, and later attempted to blackmail him, Bak suffered an outbreak of hives.
