Seishuu

Summary

Seishuu is a young boy suffering from deteriorating vision who joins Suzu on her journey. Orphaned after losing both parents to youma, he originally hailed from Kei. His family fled when Jokaku exiled the kingdom’s women, but tragedy struck when his father was devoured by a demon in front of Seishuu, who was simultaneously struck in the head. This concussion caused progressive health decline, resulting in seizures and blindness. After traveling to Sou and then Sai, his mother died of illness before they could return to Kei. Upon the ascension of Kei’s new ruler, Seishuu decided to go back. He met Suzu arriving by boat, and though they clashed initially because he criticized her for complaining rather than acting to change her fate, they eventually became friends. As Seishuu’s condition worsened, Suzu believed the monarch of Kei at Gyouten could cure him. However, they were separated in Shisui Prefecture, Wa Province. Seishuu collapsed in the path of a carriage and was deliberately run over by the prefect’s praetor, Shoukou. He died in the arms of a girl named Youshi, who relayed his final wish to Suzu: that she should not cry over him.
