Runaway Slave
Summary
At the beginning of Vinland Saga, Thors rescues a nameless runaway slave who had escaped from a group of Jomsvikings. After finding the man freezing to death, Thors refuses to hand him over and instead trades eight sheep to purchase his freedom. Tragically, the slave succumbs to exhaustion and exposure shortly after being saved. This brief encounter serves to highlight Thors’ profound respect for human life and his steadfast rejection of violence.
