Joe Yabuki is a restless young man who tends to solve every problem with his fists. Though he lacks manners and self-control, his natural, self-taught fighting ability more than compensates. While wandering the Doya slums, Joe picks a fight with a local gang. Despite being heavily outnumbered, he easily defeats them, catching the eye of Danpei Tange—a former boxing coach who has since turned to alcohol. Danpei sees Joe's raw talent and wants to train him to become Japan's greatest boxer. Initially, Joe writes Danpei off as a hopeless drunk, but after the trainer saves his life, he agrees to live with him and learn boxing. However, Joe's stubborn personality makes him a difficult student, and he often slips back into his old habits. To make it in the brutal world of professional boxing, Joe must learn to trust his mentor and master the techniques he's taught. But the path to becoming a pro is full of challenges that will push him to his absolute limits.

Kozue, a middle school student, is a dedicated volleyball player whose goal is to play for Japan's national team. Over the course of the series, she advances from the school district league to the Japanese volleyball finals and eventually the international championship. Yet the higher and faster she rises in her career, the more she encounters the darker side of success: overwhelming expectations, arrogance, and jealousy that escalate into serious problems.

After invading wasps destroy his home and separate him from his mother, a young honeybee named Hutch sets out on a quest to reunite with her. Along the way, he encounters numerous friendly insects who offer their assistance, though tragically, most of these helpers do not survive to see the end of the episode.

As their skills improve, they face other teams and grow stronger and more cunning, eventually confronting the elite Asakase High School squad and its star player Misugi Yan in the school tournament final. Amid subplots involving old grudges, injuries, and a mixed-race player searching for his identity and his imprisoned mother, Shingo hones his abilities as a center forward and looks forward to a match against a visiting Brazilian team. He suffers a serious injury during a game, but his talent—recognized even by the legendary Brazilian Pelé—is matched by his determination. With the help of a friend of his former rival Matsuki, he recovers and leads his team to victory.

Mako, a young siren and princess of the sea, rescues the young athlete Akira from a shipwreck during a storm and falls in love with him. With the help of the Witch of the Sea, she is transformed into a human and becomes a high school student, using her magical pendant—the "Tear of the Mermaid"—to aid everyone with her powerful sense of love and justice.

The prideful karate master Tadashi Sawamura steps into a kickboxing match to prove his dominance, only to be knocked into a coma by a practitioner of the new sport. After awakening, his trainer Endo persuades Sawamura to study kickboxing in order to reclaim his honor. The story is loosely inspired by the real-life career of champion kickboxer Tadashi Sawamura.

This comedy follows a boy from the countryside who travels to the city to study judo. There, he meets the daughter of a prominent dojo and her cat, which is skilled in judo. Each episode consists of two stories.

The leader of the school newspaper club, who lacks any athletic ability, joins numerous sports teams, leading to a series of spectacularly funny and chaotic failures.

Norakuro, a black dog, serves as a private second-class in the "Mokenrentai" (Fierce Dog Brigade), an imperial canine army fighting a war against the enemy Monkey Army. He is a stray black-and-white dog among an army of white dogs, constantly blundering his way through his duties. This series largely stuck to the source comics, though one major departure was the addition of army nurse Miko, whom Norakuro develops a crush on. In this adaptation, Norakuro is voiced by Nobuyo Ooyama, who later gained fame for voicing Doraemon.

A dim-witted country boy dreams of reaching the high school baseball championships at Koshien. Each 10-minute episode aired from Monday to Saturday.

Adapted from a 1966 manga by Hasegawa Machiko, the creator of Sazae-san, this is another everyday-life tale centering on a cantankerous old woman whose constant blundering and complaining stir up trouble among her neighbors.
