Synopsis
Orphaned Anne Shirley, age eleven, has spent her existence bouncing between households, constantly searching for a home where she fits in. She is eventually assigned to stay with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, an older pair of siblings, at their secluded Green Gables farm in Avonlea. However, it soon becomes clear that a mix-up has occurred. The Cuthberts had anticipated receiving a boy to assist with the agricultural labor, so they are taken aback when a spirited young girl with a wild imagination and a theatrical nature arrives instead. Although the Cuthberts are initially unsure, Anne’s vivacity, wit, and appeal quickly win them over. She adapts to her new surroundings and encounters numerous firsts, including going to school and forming deep friendships, as she figures out the delights and difficulties of adolescence.
