KakoPad: Nagaoka Hanabi Monogatari

Synopsis

In this educational web anime, a reluctant elementary schooler named Yukita is visiting his grandfather along with his sister when he downloads a mysterious app onto his KakoPad. The installation instantly sends him back in time to August 1, 1945, the day the Nagaoka air raid occurred. The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival began in 1946 as a memorial to those who perished in World War II, and its hallmark is the launch of three shiragiku (white chrysanthemum fireworks). Commissioned by the foundation that organizes the festival, this short anime runs exactly 10 minutes and 30 seconds—the same duration as the bombing's start time, now commemorated at 10:30 pm, which has also been the official start of the fireworks display since 2003.
