Synopsis

Sony revealed the "kawamori Edition" of its new "wena wrist" smartwatch, created in collaboration with Macross anime director and mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori, and the release naturally includes an anime advertisement. The aircraft featured in the video strongly resembles the forward-swept-wing YF-19/VF-19 variable fighter designs originally appearing in Macross Plus and Macross 7, yet it also seems influenced by real fighter aircraft, incorporating canards typical of European fighters and an air intake akin to the F-16. The iconic image of hands forming the shape of a fighter first appeared in Macross Plus as well. Kawamori designed the case that will be included with the Wena Wrist product. The watch itself features a mechanical design, drawing on pilot watch-style elements. The dial evokes the attitude indicator/artificial horizon found on fighter instrument panels, with one side having an open-heart design that reveals the mechanical movement. A white arrow at the 12:00 position marks the hour, a feature common to many pilot watches.
