Synopsis

Everyone holds a distinct view of their own image and has a personal method for expressing it. In his animated self-portrait, Osamu Tezuka represents himself as a slot machine. Following a sequence of rough, contrasting facial expressions, Tezuka's actual appearance is revealed.

Background

Nineteen animators from five countries collaborated on a project to animate their own faces. The results were screened at various animation festivals in each of the representatives' home countries. Osamu Tezuka was one of the three Japanese animators to participate. Jigazou was shown at the Zagreb International Animation Film Festival in June 1988.
