Synopsis
Set in the 1920s, Haikara-san ga Tooru follows the lively tomboy Benio and her connection with a handsome half-German soldier named Shinobu. Benio is an outgoing, athletic girl with strong convictions about living life on her own terms. When she first encounters Shinobu, she strongly dislikes him, even though he helps her out of several embarrassing situations. She is therefore shocked to learn that she has been arranged into a marriage—and that her future husband is none other than Shinobu. The story then unfolds through many twists and turns, as Shinobu must go to fight in the war, Benio wrestles with the idea of marriage, and she must get along with her future in-laws and employer. Meanwhile, the Great Kanto earthquake looms on the horizon.
