Synopsis
After the end of the massive coalition war, all of China is focused on economic rebuilding. The victorious state of Qin is in the same situation. Within Qin, the political factions headed by Ying Zheng and Buwei Lü remain locked in their internal power struggle. Because Zheng served as the figurehead king during the coalition battle, he now enjoys the people's trust—yet Lü is still a formidable opponent. He intends to disrupt Zheng's coming-of-age ceremony in 18 months. In the meantime, a Zhao army of 20,000 soldiers marches toward Qin. At court, because there are no generals able to deal with the approaching danger, Lü cunningly proposes that Zheng personally lead the army. But Cheng Jiao, Zheng's half-brother, steps forward to volunteer. Since they developed mutual trust during the coalition campaign, Zheng agrees to let Jiao go in his place. However, the Zhao troops withdraw only half a day after engaging Jiao's forces. As trouble stirs in the background, the internal conflict within Qin becomes even more entangled. Zheng believes he can trust only two individuals: Bi, a general leading 30,000 soldiers, and Xin, the commander of the Fei Xin force.
