Synopsis
This animated work is derived from rituals recorded during fieldwork carried out in Bali, Indonesia. Out of the numerous ceremonies called Sangyan in Bali, the subject is Sangyan Dudari, believed to be the most powerful for driving out evil spirits. Sangyan Dudari involves two premenstrual girls being taken over by Dudari (a celestial maiden spirit) and performing a continuous dance.
