Synopsis
Mahjong is a game often enjoyed with family and friends, but it also thrives in society's underworld. Nangou, a compulsive gambler burdened with over three million yen in debt, makes a desperate final attempt to settle his score by betting his life on a mahjong match against the mafia. As the game unfolds, however, Nangou drifts further from winning and closer to death. Just when all hope seems lost, the game parlor is suddenly invaded by Shigeru Akagi, a young boy fleeing from the police. In a last-ditch effort to turn the tide, Nangou passes the game to Akagi after teaching him a few basic rules. The mafia sneers as Akagi takes a seat to play—but they soon discover that Akagi is a born gambler. He is an imposing figure unafraid of death, one fated to become a legend.
