Synopsis
Five best friends—Aoi Miyamori, Ema Yasuhara, Midori Imai, Shizuka Sakaki, and Misa Toudou—discovered their shared passion for anime at Kaminoyama High School and started the animation club. They created their first amateur anime together, presented it at the culture festival, and pledged to pursue careers in the industry, hoping to collaborate on a mainstream show someday. Two and a half years later, Aoi and Ema have secured positions at the renowned Musashino Animation production company. The others face hurdles in achieving their dream jobs. Shizuka struggles with being overlooked as a voice actress, Misa works a stable but unfulfilling job designing 3D models for an auto company, and Midori studies at university, aiming to become a story writer. These five young women discover that success involves many detours, yet dreams remain attainable through persistence and a dash of eccentric creativity.
Background
Shirobako won the Animation Kobe Television Award in 2015. It also won the Animation of the Year award in the Television category at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in 2016.
