Synopsis
Tomoya Okazaki is a high school delinquent who sees life as meaningless and believes he's destined for nothing. Together with his buddy Youhei Sunohara, he cuts class and plans to fritter away his school years. While heading to school one morning, Tomoya notices a girl murmuring softly to herself. Without warning, she blurts out "Anpan!"—a common Japanese snack—which grabs his attention. He soon learns her name is Nagisa Furukawa and that she shouts out things she likes to pump herself up. Nagisa insists they're now friends, but Tomoya brushes it off and moves on. Yet Tomoya finds himself noticing Nagisa more frequently around campus. Eventually he gives in and becomes friends with her. He discovers Nagisa had to repeat a year due to a serious illness and that her goal is to bring back the school's drama club. Claiming he has nothing else to do, he agrees to help her accomplish this, joined by four other girls. As Tomoya spends more time with these girls, he uncovers their personal struggles. While trying to assist each one in overcoming her own challenges, he starts to realize that life is not as boring as he once believed.
