Synopsis
In 2046, humanity grows increasingly wary of robots, moving away from their use and trusting them less. This makes life perilous for the beings known as seconds, the most recent line of robots as far as the public knows. This is the world Detective Ross Sylibus inhabits. He requests a transfer to Mars after a robot killed his partner. Upon arrival, he is immediately thrust into a murder case: a country singer from his own flight has been killed. Stepping off the plane, he watches a scene unfold and meets his new partner, Armitage, a female cop with a major attitude. A rash of murders begins as more women are killed. As the investigation continues, a secret is uncovered: there is another line of robots called Thirds. More and more Thirds turn up missing, targeted by a serial killer intent on wiping out all of them. In her quest to bring the murderer to justice, Armitage reveals a secret—she herself is a Third.
